If you have an Xbox 360 which is better then the PS3, then Call of Duty 3 is phenominal. The on-line play is alot better then CoD2. Not to mention the graphics are slightly better.
If you have a PS2/3 or the Wii your out of luck.

Let me just say this.. 3 is better than 2.. due to graphics and online addition.. but.. have you ever played Call of Duty? They say it is so awesome, and so life like.. I thought the graphics royally sucked on PS2. I am getting it on PS3 to further investigate. I can tell you though.. on the PS2, I play Battlefield 2 Modern Combat. After playing that game, COD3 on PS2, is just lame. The graphics and free roam can't compare. COD3 is so lacking.. COD3 is like something old from outdated times like Syphon Filter 2 on PSone!! It's some old in an area run around and shoot type of game. The maps are small. closed corned.. Graphics horrible. I have much more fun on BF:MC for PS2, or even at the least Timesplitter Future Perfect for PS2.. again.. I haven't tried it on PS3, and they lured me in. It's coming in the mail. Hopefully this is what everyone is talking about, otherwise I don't see anything fun in the game. I played James Bond 007 on an old Gamecube and got the same feeling as COD3 on PS2. The online enviroment just is not fun. Shoot, die. spawn.. be in a small close cornerned map. Drive just a few vehicles, on only 2 of the maps. Like a motorcycle.. woowhee.. not fun! BF:MC for PS2 has boats, helicopters, tanks, hummers, dune buggys, on almost every map! Very large maps too! Just roam and do whatever.

Call of Duty 3. It has better online play and you can throw enemy grenades back at them.

depends. cod 2 has multi-player (which i just love), and cod 3 is the most realistic war game, currently.
both are quite realistic and accurate.
