1) watch lots of scary movies
2) walk in on your parents when they are having sex.
Two of the scariest things I can think of!
The other things that are scary involve putting yourself at risk and I don't think that's a good idea. Of course I think giving yourself a scare that will cause nightmares is pretty silly, but hey!

The best way to achieve this is to eat foods high in carbohydrates before going to bed. This is why cartoons might say, after a nightmare, 'no more pepperoni before bed' or something

I almost always get nightmares when I've had a nap throughout the day...so I'm almost forcing myself to sleep at night.

If you want a serious answer, this is what you do: Put plenty of coats or folded-up blankets or anything that will feel heavy on the bottom of your bed so your legs will feel the weight of them while you go asleep. This is so your legs will struggle to move as easy as usual.
You'll be amazed when you realise that this nearly guarantees everytime.

Yes, deprive yourself of sleep for a while.
Its very bad for your health by the way but when you hit the pillow for a 'long one' the nightmares are more likely.
