I will graduate from college in one year with a degree in Finance. I want to go into the actuary field. We currently live in BIrmingham, Al. We're looking for a city bigger than this and one where it snows. We would love to be able to ski and definately would appreciate some great scenery. I love city views, mountains, and the water. Can anyone advise us on the three cities we're considering? Or if you have any other reccomendations that would be great. Safety and culture are also some of our concerns.

Tough choice to pick one of the three, especially what you're looking for:

Denver - big city, lots of mountains, great skiing. I haven't lived/visited there so I'm not sure what the place is like.

Minneapolis - I'm actually from MN and would recommend living in the suburbs and commuting in for work. Also, I personally would pick St. Paul of Minneapolis. I think there's more to do there and it's a tad bit safer (though they are just a hop skip and a jump away from each other). Summertime is great with lots of activities and there are some ski areas in central and northern MN for wintertime. And lakes, well, there's gotta be a reason it's call the Land of 10,000 Lakes! ;-) Swimming, fishing (summer/winter), boating, beaches, etc. Plenty to do!

Chicago - another great city. I have family that live here. Lots of culture to be had. You'll be right on the water if you live downtown, or close enough if you're in the burbs. I love the Field Museum! But besides the Chicago and surrounding area, there really isn't much in the state. Again, not sure on the job market.

Out of the three, I'd choose Minneapoli (St. Paul) or Chicago. Hope the advice helps!

Denver is not really a big city and the job market is pretty limited but it makes up for it with the weather being mild in the city and snowy in the mountains and the best skiing and hiking, not much water except for the reservoirs and lakes (drought the last few years).

Chicago has plenty of jobs but its very cold, its more city than anything - has forest preserves that are beautiful & are not far out of the city. lots of trails too! and "the lake" is wonderful.

City life is great in both Denver & Chicago. Both are pretty safe but it just depends on where you live thats a given for any city

Not sure about Minn...

look into the company CCA (Chicago Consultant Actuaries) Strategies. They just got acquired by JPMorgan Chase in October and they are looking to expand and they are recruiting everywhere. Very good culture. The thing is, their headquarter is in Chicago but they got an office in Denver as well. Don't know if this tip would help. Chicago is a pretty cool city. It's not as crazy as New York but it got all the essential a big city should have. GL!

I live in Metro Denver area. Castle Rock,30 min south of Denver.Moved here from New jersey 15 years ago. Do not regret the move, can't think of a better place to live. Close to the mountains, blue skys and over 300 days of sunshine a year . very low humidity. milder winters than Chicago and Minneapolis. This year has been above normal as far a snow fall.
But it's melting fast because of the sunny days.We hardly ever get a rainy day in the summer. Come on out................

I even have lived in Minneapolis and enjoyed it very lots. besides the undeniable fact that, I moved to California, Colorado and Washington and enjoyed all of them. I advise which you provide Chicago a attempt for some year. it fairly is a stunning city that has lots to grant. I enjoyed the climate in Minneapolis better than Chicago. the human beings in Chicago have been friendlier and the girls prettier different than interior the iciness all of them appear like shifting mounds of garments. sort is the spice of stay, you will make new acquaintances in Chicago. holiday around greater and look at countless places in the previous settling down.
