Does that mean a person is retarded?

Mental retardation is defined as an IQ of less than 70. Asperger's does not cause mental retardation. It is possible that a person diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder may appear to have mental retardation. With their social and language deficits, it is possible that the results of any standardized intelligence testing will underestimate their abilities.

Absolutely not! The majority of people with Aspergers have average to superior IQ's. Some psychologist say that Bill Gates and Albert Einstein showed sign of having Asperger's disorder.

Not at all. Just means they have a brain dysfunction and code input/output differently from the average.
Most Asperger's people are pretty intelligent and vary in degree of how high-functioning they are. I have worked with two people with Asperger's and really liked them both.
The younger they are diagnosed and get help, the better off they are as adults, but this holds true for any learning disability.

It does NOT mean a person is retarted. My half-brother has this type of disorder and it has nothing at all to do with down syndrome. From what I was told he got it from his father, my step-dad and he just acts different. I'm not exactly sure what traits he has from this syndrome but he has it and he is not retarted.

No. It is often associated with average intelligence and above average intelligence as well.

It is a separate thing from intelligence altogether.

No. They may have some social difficulties, but my experience has been that they're very intelligent and high-functioning people.
