I have 4 hooved blessings.
Montana- A 6 year old appaloosa mare, who is due to have her first baby in June. Everyone is betting she is gonna have twins. She is my world and my life. I often call her my baby girl, because, well she is. I've had her since she was 6 months old. I raised her and trained her myself. I love her sooo much, I'd hate to lose her during birth
Mooney- A 16 year old shetland/welsh pony gelding. He was my very first pony and we grew up together.
Kid- A 27 year old arabian gelding. He almost doesn't look like he is gonna make it this winter. This is the worst winter we've had in years, and he seems to be fading.
Jack- We don't know how old Jack is, but he is a donkey stud, and the daddy of Montana's first baby/babies. We just put him in the paper for sale because we cannot have him and the babies at the same time. Not enough land or pastures to keep the separated and healthy.

I am soooo sorry for your loss. I know how bad it hurts. My nana had an old black gelding I loved so much, and I swore he would be mine once me and my mom moved to the country. But the dang fool escaped one day and headed down the driveway at a gallop and tried to clear the cattle guard. I held my horses head as he layed on the ground, his back 2 legs busted. He died in my arms. The next day my grandfather tore up the cattle guard and put up a gate.

i do have a horse and it is a female, who has been through the same difficulty your did. but i was fortunate enough to have my uncle around to help bring it out and it does happen but when the baby is turned it becomes very difficult for the mother to push it out. so as disgusting as it may sound the hands have to go in to help bring it out and if it is not done in time both could die, I'm sorry to hear of your loss because i know what is like when one dies although mine died of age.
Good luck in the future!! :)

15-20ish- never had a mare die from birthing complications- had 2 foals (one due to a genetic defect- enlarged heart-died under anesthesia) die.
Very sorry for your luck- next time you breed, keep a close eye with temperature and nutrition of the mare and ultrasound monitoring of the fetus.
So much can go wrong- almost lost our last foal b/c the sac was still over it's head. Thankfully, my mom was checking on her at the time and pulled it off her head.

we have three, two Morgan mares that we are hoping to breed and one mini colt that we also hope to breed.
sorry to hear about your other two, we lost a TB gelding about two months ago. it never feels good to lose one .
what type of birthing difficulties did you lose yours to? I have seen plenty of births , and only a hand full of those horses died. what happened ?
