I think ketchup is safe in the cupboard because it contains an acid, vinegar. So, putting it in the refrigerator can be a personal preference.

Cupboard - no question. I hate cold ketchup. It's always going on hot foods, why would I want it cold?
My rule: Mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce go in cupboard. Salad dressing, mayo and pickles go in the fridge.

Ketchup has to be refrigerated after it has been opened. Otherwise, it will go bad and you could get sick.

after the seals been broke you gotta keep it in the ice box, that stuff can't keep in the cupboard unless you use a bottle a day, billy empties a bottle a day but NOT a ketchup bottle...

My mom always kept it in the cupboard, I usually put it in the fridge, but if I forget and leave it out, it's not a big deal.
