What kind of content generate a good source of web traffic?

That is a topic on which doctoral theses have been written. It is a very broad and complex question. Right now, there is a great deal of hype surrounding user-generated content. People love seeing their own stuff, and an army of contributors will generate a great deal of content, but the quality will generally be poor.
This is a very similar question to "what is a good idea for a business?". The only people who can answer that are the people who have started successful businesses, but you can't use their answer because they already did. If you can come up with content that other people want, it will drive traffic.
