- 4y/-4 < -36/-4

Sec: when your dividing by a negative number in an inequality problem > the inequality sign changes...

y > 9

-4y<-36 dividing by (-4) a negative number changes the inequality
y> (-36)/(-4) ==> y > 9

You would solve this just as you would any type of equation. Divide both sides by -4. However, since you divided by a negative you must flip the inequality sign in the middle. Thus getting, y > 8 .
