Hi, My snowboard really really needs to be waxed, and I am going snowboarding tommorrow (YES!!!!). the problem is that I wasnt able to get to the snowboard shop this year, and now im stuck with just a block of skate wax ("Slick Brick" http://www.skateboard.ws/skateboard-wax.htm) and I was wondering If I will be able to temperarilly wax my board with it. It needs to be waxed so badly that I was going up a jump and actually got stuck on it (yes actually stopped mid way up it). If I can use it, How?

haha you were all wrong! i waxed it with an iron and skate wax, and it turned out GREAT! the funniest thing is that i had no idea what I was doing, and wasnt really worried about wrecking it because its a 4 year old board.

your board will survive if you dont wax it ... the wax fills the groves on the base to protect the board and it creates less friction - which means "it goes faster"

Now as for you getting stuck on "a jump" heres some tips.
1. its not called a jump, its called a kicker.
2. if the the temps have been up where you are boarding its a good chance that the snow is really sticky which will slow your board in a second.
3. Go faster, str8 shoot it, dont speed check before the kicker and you wont have a problem with "getting stuck"????

bottom line, your board has gone this long with out wax, whats one more time going to hurt.

I'm not entirely sure what your skate wax is made of, but unfortunately it probably won't work. Snowboard wax works because of the chemicals in it, which melt the snow directly below the board, giving you a thin layer of water to ride on. If the wax doesn't have the proper chemicals, it would be more likely to increase friction rather than decrease it. I would also suggest going to your local shop and getting a full base grind and wax, but if you can't afford that, use some wax remover. Another way to remove wax from your snowboard is to wax over it with new wax, and then scrape it all off. It simply pulls the old wax out of the pores on the base, and cleans it at the same time. If you are low on wax, however, just use base cleaner/wax remover.

Skate Wax

Do NOT use skate wax. That is a totally different kind of wax and isn't designed to provide glide on snow. You can get your board waxed at the resort. Just head to the tune shop (every resort has them) and get your board waxed, it should cost around 10 bucks and doesn't take very long. They will also have the best insight as to which wax is working for the snow conditions (yeah, it's different and there are tons of different wax choices).

Have fun

Don't use skate wax. Take it to the repair shop on the mountain and have them wax it if it's really that bad. It won't need to be waxed unless you have used it a bunch of times since waxing it last.

PS Don't wax unless you really know what you are doing or you may damage your board!

nope you shouldnt use skate wax. just go down to the local boardshop and pick up some snowboard wax. if you dont have time to hot wax your board get some paste wax or "snowboard lubricant", they give you a temporary lubricant and a lot faster than hot waxing
