Probably.

GM V-8 engines are generally 90-degree deals (the Northstar V8's are sometimes 60-degree), and generally use the same bolt patterns, etc.

The reason I say "probably" is that during the 1970's, the GM motor divisions put, say, Olds motors into Chevys, etc. Some of those had different bolt patterns. If you have a "real" Chevy, then you're probably okay.

I found out about the different motor thing when I went looking for a Buick V8, and found out that I couldn't put a Chevy into my Buick unless I originally had a Chevy, or unless I wanted to change my tranny, etc etc

No problem. The powerglide or TH-350 are both pretty good tyranny's.
Don't know which you have. They're not as strong as a TH-400, so you may want to put some money away and eventually upgrade to a 5 or 6 speed manual or TH-400 auto.

Yes....but you may have to use a different torque converter. If you have a built engine, you may also need a higher stall in the torque converter.
