"mature student"????

You don't say where you live. Here in the USA, a nurse has to take 2 years of college, and pass an exam to be a Registered Nurse. While, strictly speaking, you don't need a HS degree to enter college, you do need to have a solid education behind you as well as study skills that most of us learn in HS.

You can enter a college with a GED. You will probably have to take some prerequisite courses before you are admitted into the Nursing program, though.

As far as age goes, there is no requirement...except that you are breathing...for that. All you have to do is graduate from an accredited Nursing program and sit for your State's Board exam(s.)
