OK, but realize that this is a subject that takes years to fully master -

"Ser" involves states that cannot change, or are more permanent.
El perro es amarillo.
El libro es blanco.
Soy un puertoriqueno.
Juan es mi hermano.
Neither the dog nor the book are going to change color any time soon. I will always be originally from Puerto Rico, no matter when I am living now. John will be my brother forever.

"Estar" involves states that might change, or are more temporary.
Estoy cansado.
Estamos en el parque.
I may not be sad tomorrow. We may not be in the park an hour from now.

These aren't all the rules, but should be enough to help you -
Buen exito!

We use a memory device:

Estar
P.L.A.C.E
Position - Clara esta levantada
Lugar- Nosotros estamos en la clase de espagnol
Acción- Los estudiantes estan estudiando
Condicíon- Los niños estan enfermos hoy
Emoción- Estoy muy striste hoy y no sé porque

Usually something that happens once or is temporary is used with estar like I am sick today- Estoy enfermo hoy

Ser (T.O.P.I.C)

(personality)
(nationality)
(religion)

Usually used with things that don´t change

Also you can search Estar vs. Ser in google and it can give you a lot of sites where you can practice and take tests.

the differences are that ser is used when you are talking about occupation, origin, time/date, description of people/nouns, ownership, nationality, and description of a substance. Estar is used with location in prepositional phrases, condition of health, and in the present progressive(the -ing endings) which is used to stress what is happening now.

i'm not an expert in spanish but lets say this. You can use them in contexts like this:
estar-to be doing something(an action),to be somewhere
ser-to be somebody..
well..you get the picture..
examples:
estar lellendo-reading
estar grabando-recording
estar en Canada- to be in Canada
ser lo mejor-being the best
ser capitan-being a captain
