I had the same feelings when I met people from c. a. in person or through the internet,I too came from there many years ago when I was a teenager, I have never gone back and haven't kept in touch with anyone over there so I've lost the feel for that culture even though I can speak spanish very well and welcome any opportunity to do so. Also I married into the chinese american culture that has added another dimension to my life. I finally made up my mind that I can have it both ways in this case,I have adopted this country I love it and I probably will never leave it , my children were born here and some of my dear relatives are buried here but I am and always will be a Latina and that's fine too.If you want to talk with me about this I'll give you my email.

Some people always feel different and don't manage to have the easy relationships other people seem to.
Maybe God has another place he wants you to be in eventually, and if you are too cozy where you are, you won't move toward it?
Maybe you feel things more intensely, and sometimes this pushes people away?
You can certainly explore this with a therapist if you have good insurance:)
But it seems you are recognizing this trait in yourself and exploring it- so that means you are growing from it. Continue to grow and reach out to others. Sometimes it's easier on the net where you are anonymous, but make an effort to connect with the family, friends, co-workers and neighbors in your life.
Do kind things for no reason but kindness. It will lessen isolation and make you feel connected.
Good luck to you, and peace within your heart.
