My husband is now making rougly $4000 a month, and we have very little expenses (our rent, utilities included, is $151). There is just the two of us, so my income really isn't needed anymore, but I do like my job. I'm just exhausted! I love my boss and I don't want to offend him, but how do I tell him that I need him to cut my hours from 50ish down to about 20? I just need a break - a long one - because I'm burnt out, and this way I won't leave him stranded and I'll still have some structure and income of my own.

Nope, no government money going to my rent - just got lucky. Eastern Montana is pretty cheap.

I would just be honest and up front with him. I'm sure he would rather accommodate your request than lose you as an employee completely. Just explain your circumstance and let him know how you feel. Your concern about not leaving him high and dry is very commendable of you.

When you stop, it is gonna be hard to start back up. You better be sure you want to cut down. They may just let you go. You gotta take care of you and yours. Hopefully hubby won't burn out just when you do. I have worked 60+ all my life and it is coming to a quick ending now. Too old to keep that sort of thing up, especially in a physical job working on the steel. I had a good run. I am tired.

Your boss is spending less on one employee (you) than he would to hire someone to take up the hours you've mentioned you don't want to do. He has found this to be a successful working plan for his company.

People treat us as we allow them to. Sometimes it's accidental, sometimes it develops into a bad habit. Either way, you must take care of yourself.

Make some notes on how you could do your job with less hours, analyse time management on your bosses part (sounds like he isn't very good at it if he's asking 60hrs of you) and prepare your suggestions to correct this situation. You've recognized the problem, now you need to find a workable solution(s) that you and your boss can benefit from.

Good luck..

he might ne giving you all the hours because he knows you'll do it. he probably doesn't know, how you feel, so you have to let him know you're burnt out. The only thing I can think of is to be straight with him. If he's a good boss, he'll understand and try to work with you on a more manageable schedule. Be polite, but don't sacrifice your well being and performance.

just be forward and tell him exactly what you wrote in this question. offer to be flexible with those 20 hours, but be prepared for your boss to want to replace you completely. hope everything works out

just curious where do you live that your rent is $151???? i'd like to know so i can move there LOL : )

Since you don't NEED the job I would just ask your boss if you can reduce your hours to 20/week. If he ask why I wouldn't tell him you're tired and too burned out - just say you need to cut back on your hours due to personal reasons. Worse case scenario is he says no.

why such cheap rent?
hope you are not accepting monies from some government agency (section 8 for instance), that could better help someone else that really needs it.
that said, I guess I would just be upfront and honest with my employer, it's all you really can do, and stop worrying, it never gets us anywhere...
