No, but since you're adding more estrogen to your body and doing so isn't natural, you should be aware of developing an estrogen dominance:
# Fat gain, especially around the abdomen, hips and thighs
# Fatigue
# Fibrocystic breasts
# Foggy thinking
# Gallbladder disease
# Hair Loss
# Headaches
# Hypoglycemia
# Increased blood clotting (increasing risk of strokes)
# Infertility
# Irregular menstrual periods
# Irritability
# Insomnia
# Magnesium deficiency
# Memory loss
# Mood swings

Yes it does mess around with your female hormones. And it CAN in certain circumstances make you more manly -- which is vastly different from saying that it WILL do so.

The composition of birth control pills vary. Many of them contain very significant amounts of estrogen. When your body detects an abnormally high amount of estrogen it shuts off much or most or even all of your own natural production of estrogen.

Now, there's still a higher-than-normal level of estrogen in your body and the pill is still effective enough to stop pregnancy, but sometimes the effect of the synthetic estrogen isn't identical to that of your own natural estrogen and if your skin is sensitized to respond to testosterone (something that takes place in early fetal life, long before birth, in all boys and many girls) then it can happen that your own natural testosterone will not be counteracted as effectively by the estrogen from pill as it was by your natural estrogen and you may find you develop, for example, significant moustache and possibly beard growth. You may also find some of the other common marks of high testosterone such as a deepening voice, enlarged clitoris etc. That's probably the sort of thing that was being referred to.

Also, when you come off the pill, this may be a lot more marked, because after having shut down production of estrogen your body may not restart natural production of estrogen immediately or, if you're over thirty, at all, in which case the tendency towards masculinization can be quite marked.

Please don't think these things WILL happen, but you should recognize that they COULD possibly happen.

Being on the Pill does not make you manly at all.

If anything, it makes you more of a woman; especially if your hormones are out of wack to make your periods wierd.

No this is not true

the pill contains oestrogen - generally known as a female hormone. So if anything the pill will make you more womanly.

Of COURSE not! That is just silly.

The pill tricks your body into thinking you're pregnant, so it doesn't release ovum (eggs). You don't get more manly when you're pregnant, do you??

No. Reality is correct. You may have shorter periods (even miss them all together) but there is nothing Manly about it.
