A metaphor is when you compare two things which are not normally compared without using 'like' or 'as.' (A simile uses 'like or 'as.') A metaphor states what the subject is, while a simile states what the subject is like.
Metaphors can be humorous and even unintentional.
An example of a simple metaphor for a person who is friendly is, 'She is a angel.' However, metaphors can become complicated and if done correctly can be extremely clever.
