These bands are the most pathetic excuse for punk rock I've ever heard. They completely defy the meaning of punk which is complete freedom and acceptance. True punk rock are bands like the sex pistols, the ramones, the casualties, the scandals, the misfits, black flag, the circle jerks, the dead kennedys, bands like that. How in the world did everyone perception of punk get so messed up?

These are people who only know what they have heard, and not experienced for themselves. They truly do not know what real punk rock is probably because all they are exposed to is stupid tv channels like fuse. Some people even seem to think its just a fashion, I don't look punk, and I hate labels anyway. Whether a band sells out or gets on a major label doesn't matter, unless they change who they are to conform to what society is looking for. One thing I find hilarious is that people are supposed to 'grow' out of listening to punk, well I'm 26 now and I doubt that will happen. My favorite music is from the late 70's to early 80's, I like all types of music but punk exceeds most of my music tastes. The kids are out of whack because this is what is popular to listen to nowadays, and kids usually just follow the crowd instead of learning how to be themselves.

As with anything money is the root of evil. Green Day was alright when they were on Look Out records, but again money and fame lead them astray. The public doesn't want to hear about the all of the problems in the world the record companies took the chance to package punk rock in a nice neat little package. That's not what punk rock is. The Sex Pistols are just as bad as the Good Charlotte's they are all basically boy bands put together to make a profit. According to Malcolm McClaren the Pistols manager he put together the Pistols to prove he could make $1 million without the help of a large record label. However the other bands you mentioned are awesome. To answer the last part of your question of how punk got so messed up I would have to say as soon as people started labeling off shoots of punk i.e. "pop punk." That's an oxymoron if it's true punk rock it's the antithesis of pop. But what do I know.

Believe it or not, most of the bands like simple plan good charlotte green day etc start out as punk bands. The difference is when they gain popularity and major labels wave money in front of them and its a matter of whether they resist or not. Those who take the money ie simple plan, start singing songs directed at teeny bopper 13 year old girls. Green Day on the other hand played alongside legendary Operation Ivy on the sacred Gilman St. But now after they released American Idiot all these 14 year old girls are screaming "OMG im liek tha biggest Green Day fan eva dey liek sooooo rawk" i bet these "biggest fans" have never heard a track from 1036 happy hours or ever heard Longview or Brain Stew. Good Charlotte toured with Rancid and belted out good punk tunes in the late 90's until MTV's evil tentacles reached out and got em. Now they just sing pure crap.....sad sad sad

Too many bands at the same time. A lot of people in the world like them, thus, making an excuse to like "punk". Even though they aren't true punk listeners. I agree.

Totally agree. They sing about happy care-free nonsense. Yeah, everything is great, woo-hoo!

It's because that commercial crap sells really well. Music is run by big corporations right now, the little bands don't stand a chance unless they have this "cool" image.

It totally sucks.

Bring back bands like Bad Brains and Black Flag

They don't fall under any category normally, so people consider them as "punk." They're more like wannabe punk.
