I'm not a female, but i do know the reason for this. It is the cost of those items, that prohibit selling them for that price, thus, institutions rarely put more than 2 or 3 in a machine.
These type of machines will eventually disappear or the price will go up dramatically.

I'm not sure I've ever used a vending machine. Just plan ahead.

Too often.
They're pretty small, and there's no reason not carry one or two with you in your purse.
