I'm not married by choice. Back in the day, women were brought up thinking they "needed" a man, and in some ways they did, they didn't make as much money, some jobs were "closed" to them. Today, women can do pretty much what they want on their own, get a good job, make money, buy a house, buy a car, etc. They don't need the financial support of a man. Which enables them to be more selective about choosing the man they want to be with. Money is freedom.
My mother married "late", at age 25, in 1955. It is sad, but she told me that while she loved my dad, she was never "in love" with him but she knew he would be a good provider for the kids she wanted to have, and he was. She had gone to college, had a degree, the next step was get married, have a family. Together, they provided for us very well. But she instilled in me, the idea that I don't "need" a man, marry because you want to, not because you feel like you "have" to. Learn to take care of yourself.

I'm still young....but I don't want to get married. I think the idea of marriage is so overrated.
