It all depends on the sizes of the files you want to store on the hard drive...
figure this: approx...
1000 KB's equal 1 MB
1000 MB's equal 1 GB
1000 GB's equal 1 TB
so basically, 250,000 files that are 1 MB in size can fit on a 250 GB hard drive...take it from there' that's an approximate.

Depends on the size of the files, you could have one 250 gig file taking up the whole hard drive (though in reality, it would be more like a 247 gig file, as displayed hard drive space is calculated differently than how windows does it). Or you could have 250 one gig files, and so on. 250 is a decent size, but it all depends on what you want to do with it,

1 250 gb file or multiple files that have an accumulated size less than 250 gb. This can be any number between 2 and 250,000,000,000

Obviously it depends on the file size. 250 gigabytes is 250 billion bytes. If a file is on the average of 100,000 bytes (a big file for a text document), then the hard drive would hold 250,000 large files. A good high resolution digital photo is about 2.5 MB, so it would hold 100,000 high resolution digital photos. An hour long digital movie is about 10 gigabytes, so it would hold 250 hours worth of high quality digital video.

Tons...Windows only takes up less than 10GB...the rest is just all the stuff like games and documents that you put on there...
Like everyone else has said...it depends on what kind of files you have. Movie files are huge, game files CAN be huge...animations, photoshop work and such can also be pretty big. So can music if you have hundreds of songs.
But if you're just doing things like word docs, those take up next to nothing. They take up Kbs...which is less than a MB and there are 1000MBs in a Gig...so..yeah...250 is TONS of space.
I have maybe an 80 Gig hard drive and I have a couple movies, tons of games, photoshop documents and music vidoes, PLUS all my digital camera photos, and I still have a little under half left.

Different files take up different amounts of space. If you were storing documents, like text files, it would hold a near infinite amount. But if you plan on storing video files at a gig each, you could about 250.

Its hard to say how many files. Usually on a 250 GB hard drive, you are actually limted to 232 GB of space. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon and check the properties of your 250GB drive and their you will see just how much space you can actually use.

A text file takes up less than one mb and a Gb is 1000mb sooo that gives you 250000 or more text files
a sound or music file takes up about 3 mb sooo....60000 files or so.
so you get the picture. 250 gb can hold alot of files,
:P also i just heard that they came out with a one terabyte hard drive! thats 1000 Gb!!!! 1000000 mb!
