Your shot goes where you point your stick....keep your stick down on your follow through and it should stay down.

Also, make sure to make good use of the flex reaction of your hockey stick. If your blade hits the ice with good force right before your blade edge contacts the puck your stick will flex then pop into the puck giving the puck extra velocity when it leaves the ice. Some sticks are stiffer than others. The stiffer the shaft the more power your going to be able to get to the puck. Also use the heel of your blade when you hit a slap shot. This part of the blade is thicker and can transfer more of your power to the shot. The middle and toe of the blade are better for wrist shots and passing.

it's all in the wrist! practice!! here's how:

STEP 1: Skate to within a reasonable shooting distance from the goal. STEP 2: Position your body sideways to the net and in a normal passing stance - skates parallel, knees bent, back bent forward, stick extended, blade edge flat on the ice (or roller rink) and puck cradled in the center of the blade. STEP 3: Raise the stick up and straight back until your bottom hand is at shoulder level. STEP 4: Keep your bottom arm straight. STEP 5: Shift your weight to the back foot. STEP 6: Raise your eyes, and mark the desired target (an open edge of the goal, not an opponent's helmet). STEP 7: Bring the stick aggressively forward: Pull with your top hand, push with the bottom hand. STEP 8: Transfer your weight to the front foot. STEP 9: Strike the puck on its bottom edge. STEP 10: Follow through with the stick. STEP 11: Adjust the blade to control its height. Tips & Warnings
The slap shot is good for dumping the puck in the upstairs corner of the net.
The height of the shot depends on the height of the follow through.
A slap shot is inherently inaccurate. Practice in aiming is essential.
Because of its speed and upward trajectory, this shot is extremely dangerous. Always make sure other players are wearing all necessary protective gear, including a helmet with a full face mask.

You must have the mechanics down if it's raising...that's often more difficult to do.

I suspect that it could be one of the following causing this: stick curve is too big, the stick-flex is too weak, thus whipping the puck or the stick is too short. Otherwise you're not hitting the puck flat...you must be coming at it at too much of an angle. Trying following straighter through your shot.

It's all in the wrists. If you are a left shot, your left wrist needs to follow through the shot and almost come downward- the wrist rotates inward. Obviously do the opposite if you are a right shot.
It's hard to explain without showing, but another good "rule" to follow is: At the end of your follow-through, the toe (tip) of your blade should make a direct line to (be aiming at) the spot you are aiming for.

I would have tigerzz lay on the ice and aim for his crotch. By the way tigerzz why are you in the hockey forum? I like watching basketball but I like hockey better. I won't go into the basketball forum and slam the sport just to get a rise from you. I wonder if the people in that forum are as intelligent as Shaq? Have you ever heard most basketball players speak? duh. I should rent out my daughter to do a better interview for them. She is six.

Stand in front of the puck more..or give less angle on your stick. Hope that helps.

By the way, basketball sucks - nothing but pot-smokin pretty-boys playing prison ball.
