I was wonedering what other people might think because with me I don't have it as a pickable feat. At the beginning of the game when my friends make their characters I have them role a check of a DC18 (d20+dexterity modifier) to see if they have it making them naturally ambidextrous. Because I think it was kind of weired to just all of a sudden take the feat and just become ambidextrous. Comments on this as well?

Feats don't just "happen." They represent intensive training on your character's part to produce the desired results. If your character takes the "Ambidexterity" feat, then he's been spending his downtime practicing with both hands in order to use them together effectively.

Still, I like the fact that they incorporated ambidexterity into the "Two-Weapon Fighting" feat. I think that it more accurately defines how the process would take place in real life. Also, it makes it easier (and quicker) for non-fighters to gain a two-weapon style.

I don't think I'd like your method, since I dislike character choices that are made by the roll of the die, as opposed to player choice. Customizable characters are the main strength of the d20 system over flawed systems like second edition.
