Sometimes, my computer won't boot up. It ALWAYS turns on but sometimes nothing comes on the screen, its just black, even though its on. I ran full tests of PC Pitstop and it says that both my processor and memory are performing very poorly and indeed my computer does perform slow. Also, there is a message that the timings are too tight when the computer does boot up and gives me the option to enter the bios or continue but if I loosen the timings, the computer never boots. The computer has never been overclocked or anything and does not have any viruses or any malicious programs. The computer is only about 1 years old.The computer used to work fine but I think some hardware might be failing, any ideas?

If its still under warranty give it back to the manufacturer, maybe there's a defect.
Also, run it in Safe Mode (press F8) at startup and select the option to view the prompts. Note on which drivers the system lags the longest - this could give you insight to any malfunctioning hardware.
Good luck.

I would expect it to be overclocking, since I have a similar problem with overclocking, but it seems that's not the case for you since you don't.
Power supplies have a certain wattage (ex. 300W, 600W for high end users). If you never turn off your power supply, the maximum wattage slowly decreases. Say you have a 300W and never turn your pc off: it's maximum wattage will become about 285W-290W. If your power supply is low to start with, and this happens, it may be too low to start the computer. Decent power supplies can be bought on ebay for about $20. i'd get a 400W one if I were you.

there could be so many things wrong. The next time it works, reformat it (you can get the recovery cd's from the manufacturers website). if the problem persists, it could be power problems as mentioned or it might be your motherboard (specifically the graphics chipset). I suggest getting a cheap PCI graphics card ($15-$20) and see if that works.

Try to upgrade the processor and memory. If it is an old machine go get a new one.

The rule of thumb is you should format your computer a least once a year.

i agree, back up your information and then reformat all your drives. if it is still acting weird, i would consider a new motherboard.
