When you were a kid did you think you were gonna grow up to be somebody. I mean really be somebody. Somebody who's not on Yahoo Answers right now. I use to think that I'd be famouse, successful, have lots of money, be a singer, a writer, an actress. But I'm none of those things. Does it seem like we all dream big as kids. Why does reality bite? I know that's a lot of question. Just try to answer for me.

because kids do not know the reality of this world ,,they dream

everyone dreams as a kid

the important thing is converting dreams into reality

and never stop dreaming

if you have no dreams ,you have no imagination

if you wanted to be something ,did you actually try to do that?
or you just dreamt about it

dreams mean nothing if you do not follow them up

you can still become what you want to

Funny...I never did want to be anyone famous. I didn't really have any vision of what my future would be outside of wife and possibly a mother. I did the "wife" thing without any real thought. It lasted 20 stressful years and I ended up having 2 amazing children who, as it turned out, were the reason I was alive. In the meanwhile I managed to turn a love of visual stimuli into a career in art and have been mostly happy being single for the last 15 years. But I never did have a real drive or desire to "BE" anything. I have been content to ride along on the crest of life and enjoy the view.

There is an up-side to this. I am not disappointed by where I end up! It is all an adventure.

EDIT:
After a few hours of thought I realize that my answer was not true. I did dream of bigger things for myself. Not really fame, but I assumed that fortune was in the cards for me. I foresaw a magazine showplace of a home, top-of-the-line sport car and the things that went with these things. Life didn't go like I planned, but I am not disappointed. Much.

I'm going through this situation at the moment. I thought I'd do something to change the world, and here I am on this website, while I should be revising for my exams and working hard to achieve the dreams I set out for myself. Being 21 years old and learning that I probably won't achieve anything like what I used to think I would is pretty hard.

I read an article which said that Einstein and other 'geniuses' weren't notoriously bright, but notoriously hard working. I guess that's the problem we all face. We can see where we want to be, but we aren't willing to put in the effort.

When we are children, our time on this world seems endless and the possibilities for our lives seem infinite. That is part of the joy of childhood and I wouldn't trade it in for a more "adult" notion of the world. I'm glad I had those dreams. As we get older we start to see the realities of the world which we view as constraints. And yes reality bites, but we learn how to survive that bite, how to treat the wound and how to recover and keep moving forward. Maybe not toward the dreams we had as a child, but toward the wisdom that comes with age. And while it may not seem like a fair trade, to me it is worthy compensation. One of my biggest dreams as a child was to be a "grown up." That one I achieved. In spades.

Yes, I always was doing shows and skits with friends and neighbors.

I was in every play from elementary school through High school, I always felt I was destined for greatness - fame and all that fun stuff.

Touched it for a while in my 20's and came damn close, but never really got there.

(Not with acting but with modeling instead.)

The only thing that 'bites' now is the fact that I'm considered too old in the industry to try again...

However, my priorities have changed now and I'm actually quite happy where I am and how I am, who I've become.

As children, we dream big because the options are wide open.
It is only as adults that we begin to limit ourselves, something I personally try not to do.

*I haven't quite accepted that I'm done with it all, honestly.
Still have that restless feeling that I'm not done yet.

my mother once told me that when people first started
asking what i wanted to be i sighed and said i'll probably
just get married and have babies. i was about 4 at the
time and it was pre WW2. sure enough, that was what
i did. i married, raised 3 children, and worked at lady,
read low paying, jobs all my life. my daughter was
encouraged to dream big. she is a college graduate and
is head of her department in an international company.
she isn't rich or famous, but she does make a good
living. dreaming big and working to make that dream a
reality may not make that particular dream come true,
but it does make for a better reality than not dreaming
at all.

Actually, in spite of the colorful life I've led, I can honestly say that I never had any "dreams" or "goals" as a young person.

When I learned to play guitar - just prior to the Beatles - I had a pretty good idea that I was going to be successful at music, which I was, but I never entertained any serious aspirations about doing it full time.

I did actually receive such offers, though.

I never had any huge dreams, but my life unfolded into such a rainbow of colorful experiences that I never felt as if I "fell short" of anything.

Because, our society only wants FAMOUS or UNIQUE people. yeah yeah, we all know we're "special" in our own ways. But the truth is that we live to support ourselves and our society. And yeah, I used to want to be a famous author. But it just so happens that only a few percent become "popular" based on their talent, whereas your oridinary talent of juggling can be performed by at least billions of others. And almost every talent or skill that some people dont have, there as always at least one person who is better at it. Or at least that's what the rest of the world decides or says.
