Hi there.

I've been a subscriber to Peoplepc.com since early 2005.
It came with accelerated dial-up, spam blocker and other useful features.

I chose to have my monthly fee of $10.95 deducted automatically from my checking account. They just send me an email statement every month showing I was charged.

I haven't gotten any spam in my peoplepc email, which is a huge plus.

Peoplepc has improved considerably since before I got it. My friend had it for years before that and it took forever to connect. But now, connecting is fast.

I've had high speed internet via telephone company before using modem and find this new version of Peoplepc to be tremendously faster and more efficient and user-friendly. It still could be improved upon, and the only complaint I have about it is this:

After being on internet for 3-4 hours, it times you out and you get a message and you have to hit the button to have it stay connected to the net. Other than that annoyance, occasionally the internet connection gets lost but it doesn't happen frequently enough to warrant it as a complaint about this service.

I compared prices; netzero was a close second. Peoplepc recently upped it's monthly fee from 9.95 to 10.95 a month, which is still reasonable for dial-up with acceleration.

You can adjust the acceleration speed according to how fast you want to surf the net and how precise you want your images to be.

I live in a larger city now and it offers about 8 different alternative access telephone numbers for dialing up but even when I was in a smaller city, there were only 2 access numbers and I never had a problem connecting.

Peoplepc was very generous to me in that I had to evacuate my city when Hurricane Rita hit. They didn't want to lose me as a customer so instead of shutting off my service, they suspended my billing and did not bill me for the time I was away from my home. Additionally, they gave me 6 months of free service because I was a hurricane evacuee.
Hope this helps you in your deciding who to go with.

I think your question is more product related than performance related.

The service has a 3 month trial period at $5.37/month for normal and $7.97/month for the accelerated.

Any internet service provider will generally have a trial period either free or at a discounted rate.

I would suggest signing up and trying People PC for the 3 month period. If you like the service keep it, if not move on.

End users can have dialup problems for any number of reasons so this is one of those things you just have to test out for yourself.

No absolutely not. Its cheap which is a plus but I had it and it is sooo slow. I went to a local dial up service and it was faster. People PC should be fast for the simple fact that it is a National product but, its definitely not. Do not get it.

If you have no affordable way to get broadband, PeoplePC is a dial up that I have set many people up with when installing their computers. It, unlike AOL and others, does not take over your PC and is VERY cheap. Great connectivity too...rarely dropped!
Ultimately, you should get either DSL or Cable.

For those of us who live in an area where there is NO CABLE OR DSL, People PC works just fine. I've been using it for years and have had NO problems.

Did I mention that I live in an area where there is NO CABLE OR DSL

Just to be clear, I live in an area where there is NO CABLE OR DSL

Dial-up will always be total crap, but people pc is probably better than AOL at least. Try ComCast; it's what I have and it's great!!! ^_^
