well the Montreal Canadiens have the biggest arena in the NHL at 21,273 and always sell out every game win or lose. and the most fans, some will disagree and say the Leafs have the biggest fan base, that is only because they are the only team in Canada that gets first rights on T.V. and their is still some Habs fans that are now over 100 years old that have seen the Habs back since 1909 the year they where founded. and we have gotten to see some of the greatest players to ever wear a Habs jersey dating way back to the early 1900's from Georges Vezina, Toe Blake, Rocket Richard, Jean Beliveau, Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden, Larry Robinson, Guy Lafleur, Patrick Roy and the list goes on. but for the largest fan base it would easily be the Montreal Canadiens you go out West to a Canucks, Oilers or Flames game and you will see the Habs colours.

When taken on a percentage basis, i.e.: championships won versus the years that a particular sport's championship has been available for competition; as of the end of 2006, the Canadiens are the most historically successful major pro sports team in North America, having won 27.3% of all NHL Stanley Cup championships. The Boston Celtics of the NBA are in second place with a 26.7% figure, with the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball in third place at 25.2%.

you go down south with the Habs most Canadians that live in Florida wear there Habs jersey when the Habs are in Florida or TB.

It is DEFINITELY the Toronto Maple Leafs.

There is like a 10 year waiting list for Season's Tickets, and statistically, they sell out the most Arenas in the NHL. Even throughout the States...you will see the Leafs Nation in strong attendance. No other team even comes close throughout North America.

Largest fan base has got to be the Toronto Maple Leafs. Go to any Ottawa, Montreal or Buffalo game with the Leafs - there are as many Leafs fans as Senators, Habs or Sabres. "Go Leafs go" drowns out the home team.

The Detroit Red Wings have sold out every home game for some 7 seasons in a row there is even a standing section where people pay hundreds of dollars to watch the game. But even when you go to there away games you see Deroit Red Wing jerseys everywhere and thats why everyone hates them so much like Colorado, Toronto, and Nashville.

Definitely the Leafs.. The hardest ticket and most expensive NHL ticket to get. I can go to any other NHL city, and find a seat, even if it's standing room. The Leafs are sold out for every game well before the season starts, and don't even get me started on how long the waiting list is for season's tickets ( Like I have been waiting ten years, now, since I moved to Toronto, and my name has not MOVED,,,, grrrr.

I'm guessing either Montreal or Toronto. 1) Montreal's the oldest hockey team on this continent; 2) both are from the Original Six Era and the longest rivalry running; 3) hockey, along with their teams, are religion in those cities. Guys like Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau are considered gods. Hell, Tim Horton's donut and coffee franchise of the same name is killing Starbucks up here.

Definitely the New York Rangers. An original six team the Broadway Blueshirts have been filling the seats at the the worlds most famous arena for years.

Come up to Canada and try to get tickets to a Leaf game, you can't... The Leafs haven't won a Stanly Cup since 1967 and they still sell out every game... I went to a Tampa Bay game when I was in Florida and got tickets with no problems... I live in Canada and you can't get Leaf tickets for less then $60 - $80 if your lucky and that in the nose bleeds... In the U.S. I'd have to say the Red Wings have the biggest fan base...

I'm obviously biased to believe my team does, but you have to seriously consider the Edmonton Oilers. We sold out all of out season seats and we have sold out every single game this season. Granted, last season we missed a sellout in one maybe two games, but they were by 100 seats, not the 10,000 places like Phoenix sometimes face. Also, when I watch away games, I always see Oilers fans cheering on the team from the stands. We also have a lot of history that comes out of the franchise (Gretzky, messier, etc.) and a lot of really great stories (Joey Moss for a huge example). There is a couple from Texas (I think) who went to all of the arenas and saw all of the teams on home ice and decided to buy season seats to the Edmonton Oilers games because they liked what they saw. I believe it's here. It's Oil Country!!!
