Funny enough -- the very people who invented geometry gave us philosophy as we know it, and the people who invented Algebra came from the same part of the world as the three major religions of the western world.

So, take philosophy. It's all logic. 2 of any one thing added to two more of any one thing create a sum of those things, and when you count them out you will find them to be 4 of those things. Of course, the 4 things must remain separate and similar (in the original categorizational definition). If you have 2 lumps of Play-Dough and smash them together with 2 more lumps, you will be left with only one lump of Play-Dough, albeit a larger one.

Also, take mathematics. Pure math deals only with quantities and possibilities, nothing so tangible as Play-Dough. 2 is a quantity, and what exactly it is a quantity of is a moot point. When you get into algebra (2x + 2x = 4x) you get variables, which treat whatever the quantified object is as always separate and always similar or equal. 2 + 2 always equals four, and 2x + 2x always equals 4x.

And take religion. Religion is all faith. I have been told since I was a small child that 2 + 2 = 4. Who am I to question it?

If religion is just a transcendental form of philosophy, and geometry and algebra are just branches of mathematics, I would say that in all senses 2+2 = 4.

Except in a surreal sense. In a surreal sense, 2+2 = Dinosaur.

In a philosophical sense? Uh, hmm...

In the universe, 2 is not an actual object, and + is not an actual action, therefore 2+2 does not exist. However, if 2 is somehow represented in the universe, like with two electrons, and another 2 is also represented in the same way, then as long as you can find a way to add them, you get 4.

How was that?

In my philosophical sense it means that 2 is not 2 and is seperated by + the two will forever be seperate and distinct as long as they are seperated by + but when they are no longer sperated and added together and introduced as 4 then the two (2+2) will be one (meaning a single unit) and known as 4. I know you all really think that sounds crazy don't ya? But I think it's true.

It depends on the value of 2, either way it is double of whatever the value is since the variables are not varied.
