Well Stalin killed about 20 million of his own people, I don't think Mussolini killed more than a few hundred thousand of his own people (and he did get the trains to run on time). So I guess when it comes to maniacal autocrats, Mussolini was better. But neither was much of a statesman by conventional definitions.

Better than what? They both were criminally insane dictators. Mussolini, like Hitler, must have had the "gift of gab" to trick his way into power so incredibly easily. Stalin just murdered his way to the top and stayed there the same way. So did Mussolini.
Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were statesmen!

Stalin was pretty bad, but Mussolini help try to take over the world, Stalin just depraved his own country. So Mussolini is worse if that's what your asking.

When it came to slaughtering his own people, Mussolini was a nothing compared to Stalin.
Democrats used to love Stalin. FDR called him "Uncle Joe".
Democrats finally decided that genocide against over 20 million of your own people was "not good".
They started to dislike "Uncle Joe" after WW11.

Which is better, an incompetent responsible for less than a million of his countrymen's deaths, or a ruthlessly able statesman responsible for 20 million of his countrymen's deaths? Hmmm? How can I possibly decide?
