I really really want to go to Brown University. I'm a sophmore and I get straight A's and I participate in 4 clubs. What else should I do?

don't just participate, but have an officer position in the clubs (President, Secretary, treasurer).

Get involved in student body politics, and hold an office (preferably Student body president).

Become friends with your teachers so that they will enthusiastically write you letters of recommendations.

Volunteer for community activities (visit disabled veterans at VA hospital, or kids in cancer wards, help at special olympics), Get to know directors at various charitable organizations, so that they too can write you glowing character references.

Get invovled in sports, preferably be a captain of a team.

Look up the regional chapter of the Brown Alumni Association, and see if there are any alumni who work, own businesses, hold political office, or run organizations in your area. Write to them, and tell them you want to go to Brown, and ask if you can volunteer for one of their charities, or if they have part time work for high school students.

Learn to play a musical instrument.

Don't do drugs.

Try to get a meaningful job during the summer.

If you have an opportunity to travel to a foreign country, do it!

Obviously, you may not be able to do everything I suggest, but you can certainly do many of them.

Good luck.

It will be a good idea to contact the school, as well. Go to their website and sign up to receive additional information about Brown. They'll start a file on you (if they haven't already gone one...e.g. if you took an SAT Subject Test and had scores sent to them) and will track the contacts you have with them. They'll get the picture that you're interested, which will help them if they eventually decide to offer you a spot. They're more likely to offer a spot (all things considered) to someone who's likely to accept it. Ask them questions about courses to take, for example.
