My records were all destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The divorce was recorded in Cook County, Ill. Does anyone know how to get copies of such records?

ok people, thanks for trying to be helpful, but here's the problem. I'm in a FEMA trailor in MS and cant go to Chicago to get a copy of my divorce decree because I work two jobs trying to rebuild my life after Katrina. I don't have vacation time yet and am just wondering if there is a website or some service that someone is aware of that can get a copy of my divorce decree, which I need for licensing requirements in the casino industry. Someone, anyone please help

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aOh6R

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

If you have children with your "ex" ignore the advise of others, simply mail a copy of the document to your "ex". So what if it cost you .41, 5 - 10 minutes of your time and your "ex" could have gotten it by other means. If he hasn't been bugging the crap out of you and hasn't been an ***, not being a ***** isn't such a bad thing and you should try it. Off the top of my head, I know the Military (enlisted & officer) will often be asked about "divorce" in the hiring / enlistment process and I'm pretty sure they want the decree itself if "kids" are involved. The military WANTS to know who is responsible for the children ahead of time (has custody according to the Courts) and if you have child support etc. It is the only "job" that I can think that really asks. Another possible scenario (that requires proof of divorce) is when you re-marry (particularly a foreign national).

Since you obviously lived in the Chicago area, do you have any friends still living there? If so, have one of them go to the courthouse in Cook County, get a copy of your divorce, and mail it to you. It only costs $3.00, or that's how much mine was in North Carolina a few weeks ago. They need to go the Register of Deeds office, and ask for a copy. These are public records, so anyone can get a copy. Good Luck!!

If you google the superior court where it was filed, you could most likely order a copy of it and pay a fee for the copies and send a return envelope. I am not sure what the address is, but I work in the legal field and if you call them they will most likely be more than happy to help you out.

The lawyer you used for divorce should have a copy. Call him/her and ask them to send a copy to you.
