A cubic foot of water is the same as 7.48 gallons
And a gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs

Thus 1 cubic foot of water is approximately 62.4 lbs.

(Note: I learned this the hard way when I tried to move a "small" fish tank. Water is rather heavy, when you think about it.)

Since a cubic yard is 3 ft. x 3 ft. x 3 ft. = 27 cubic feet, you just need to multiply it out:

27 x 62.4 ≈ 1,685 lbs

Use the fact that 1 cubic centimeter of water weighs 1 gram. A yard is 36 inches and an inch is 2.54 centimeters. So a yard is 36*2.54 = 91.44 centimeters. This means a cubic yard is (91.44)^3 = 764,554.857984 cubic centimeters. This means it would weigh that many grams, or 764.554857984 kilograms.
