Because they think they're fat. You know, when a girl asks you if she's fat, she doesn't want to hear "No, you're not fat.", she wants to hear "No, you're so friggin' skinny!". I guess according to the media and everything today, skinny is beautiful. And what girl wouldn't want to be portrayed as beautiful? =)

Because guys don't generally like the chubby ones. It's hard for me to say, because I'm trying to be a ballet dancer, and we are shunned for not looking anorexic. But I agree with everyone else. It's somewhat about the media... Especially because skinny is usually associated with healthy. So it's not unnatural to be attracted to slender ones. I think there's this weird misconception. Some teenagers and just people in general are like, oh I need to not eat and be skinny. when what they don't realize is that junk food plus lack of exercise is the reason they are chubby. People just need to be healthy, and there's no such thing as a healthy obese person. people seem to think that they can avoid exercise and just not eat to get skinny. Which is stupid. In other words, excessive fat is unattractive. That's why. Stick skinny, unattractive as well (unless you're a ballet dancer...). I guess people are just generally unhappy with the way they look for no reason, and it's the simplest thing to change about the way they look?

Media, peers, pretty much everything. I would hate to grow out of some of the clothing I have. I still fit stuff I wore when I was 11 or 12 and I'm going to be 15 in a couple months. Weird :o. I don't wear that stuff out in public though, on weekends or when I just want to relax in some old jeans.

In addition to the unrealistic media images already mentioned,
one reason teen girls worry about being fat is that they have to keep buying bigger clothes as they grow.
Some girls grow very fast and go up 2 or 3 sizes in just a few months. Unless these girls are told that their growth is normal, and they are beautiful, they get really freaked out about getting bigger and wonder "when will it stop?" See, growth is not something that can be controlled, and you get a very insecure feeling when something happens to you that you can't control.
So what the teen girls need is LOTS of affirmation that they are beautiful and their body is just right for them.

You seem like you are minimizing this, like it is only the girls fault they think they weigh to much. Today's society puts women thin as a stick as the ultimate prize to a man, and girls want to look what guys usually feel is attractive. This aids in mental and eating problems like anorexia. These problems are a mental thing, in which the girl could look in the mirror and see someone obese, not someone who is so skinny you can count her ribs. The only way we can affectivly fight this is to stop putting the pin thins as the best looking, replace her with a girl with curves. If we do this, alot less girl would care so much about their weight.

it's normal for teenage girls to worry about their weight so much.it's all because of their age and the peer pressure that there going through. it is also because most the people they see on the television and the artist they idolize are some what skinny. they thunk theat they would look better when they are skinny and they could wear anything and look pretty.

I don't care about the models on TV or celebs or any of at. I want to keep being skinny because I want to be healthy. I don't want to eat junk food and get big developing heart blood pressure and all does affect. Being skinny is more healthy for my body and plus I want to look great

look at those models on TV. they are like a size -56 and they get money, fame and get called the most beautiful people. makes us feel horrible. or we go to school and see that the popular girl is always skinny, or the guy u like will only date the skinny girls. family can be a problem too. my friend is like 77lbs but her dad calls her fat ( i wonder what he thinks about me). so many factors... =/
