We have lived on this lonely rock in space for millons upon millons of years, and don't tell me that so far we only know how to breath in and out. Why can't we figure out to live longer, or actually heal any of the STD's, or how to live without air like in space.

The reason is that although we have lived on this lonely rock for millions of years we have only been advanced enough to be able to tackle these sorts of problems in the last 100 years.

Why? There is a now old philosophical concept that says that all civilisation has only what it needs at that time. When we were living in caves, we had no need of antibiotics because we were so focused survival. When we were living in the dark ages we had no need of gene mapping computers because we were so focused on religion.

It is only now that we have the technology to combat these diseases and conditions that we have need of them. I guess you could call it necessity is the mother of invention. Although we needed this technology during the great plagues of the dark ages we were so focused on religion that even though we needed it we would not have know how to use it.

Hope this helps.

Actually, we have figured out how to live longer. Just a few hundred years ago, the average life expectancy was in the 30's. In developing countries, it is still only in the 40's. Average American life expectancy is now almost 80 years old.

And humans have not lived here for millions and millions of years - we have only been around for about 200,000 years. Technology in recent centuries has profoundly changed life expectancy, but you can't expect that in a few centuries that we will permanently "cure" the results of millions of years of evolution.

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Look around. Over the last millions of years, we have figured out how to live longer. Just in my lifetime so far, the average life expectancy has increased at least 10 years. We have figured out how to cure ghonorea, and syphilis, and how to (mostly) control herpes. These diseases are preventable, if people would use the proper protective procedures. Other diseases are in the research to try to cure them. As far as living without air, that one seems a bit far-fetched, since oxygen is such a major factor in all of our body processes. Even in space, we have to take our supply of air with us.

Methinks maybe we thrive on violence. I mean look at the weapons we make and all the "Bad" guys we glorify. (Billy the Kid, Al Capon, Etc.) Also maybe if we spent more money on space exploration instead of weapons, we would be able to see what outerspace holds. Heck, we keep seeing U.F.O.'s but why don't they ever LAND? (Example: if spent more time on a "Space ship" more than the gun, then maybe we would've been able to reach farther outerspace? Maybe even colonization in another planet.(Stephen Hawkins Theory of "Saving the human race.") See look how the gun evolved. First a "Bow and Arrow." Then came gunpowder and the "Gun"(Divinci's idea?) One shot. Now over the course of the years the gun has evolved into rifles, hand guns, canons, tanks, even nuclear weapons. Now if we would have focused on space as much as the "Gun" we'd be better off.

no one can realy know these things. honistly in the future anything can happen. finding an alian race, or even a clean power scorce. but i gess in the long run, we might be able to travel far into space, Star trek, or even Star wars could be the blueprint to the future. no telling how far we can go befor doomsday.

sorry about my spelling.... it sucks.
i know im not helping out alot but this is all i got.

When we have peace, we can begin to work on it. I don't believe we'll have peace by conquering others, but no one is in a position to dismantle their armies. I'd like to see more communal type living arrangements such as the Amish, but not necessarily religious in nature.

Society is to blame. There are many theories to your questions but for the most part they have to be proven (science) or just believed (religion).
I have many theories of my own but if I were to publicize them I'm sure society would lock me up in a nuthouse. Therefor I believe whatever I want.

hey yeah i can grow gills and breath like a fish, but for the most part it seems that there are many people whose learning curve have actually flat-lined and it is those people that keep many good ideas from seeing the light of day

Amazon we have "figured out" lots of things. My question is do you really think that we have figured it out or was it revealed?
