I've been having cramps under my belly; (feels similer to growing pains/constipation.) It hurts to walk up stairs, drive over a bump in the road, lay on my side/roll over , sleep and sitting up etc. I went to a doctor and he said he's not concerned and the baby is fine. (But it hurts!) Anyone have any safe pain relief methods to ease the pain? (I have tried a heating pad, warm bath and tylenol; hasn't helped.)

Try colace (check with your doctor first of course, but colace is considered safe for use during pregnancy); if the pain is related to constipation you should get some relief, although it might take about a week.

To treat the pain itself, have you considered acupuncture? Many acupuncturists are accustomed to working with pregnant women -- I would question any acupuncturist to whom you're referred to make sure that's the case with them because, as with massage, acupressure, reflexology, etc. there are points that should not be messed with during pregnancy. I know several women who saw acupuncturists during pregnancy to address various pain issues, including headaches and joint pain, although I can't say I know of anyone who used it for the type of cramping you're describing. While I did not personally see an acupuncturist when pregnant that was mostly because I was on bedrest a lot of the time (and my acupuncturist was up a flight of stairs to boot!), but before I was pregnant one of the things we addressed was cramping.

As far as Western medicine and medication....I'd say Tylenol is about as far as you want to go, I'm afraid. If the pain is very bad, of course talk to your doctor about it, but I'd be reluctant to use anything stronger for pain. Particularly if you're talking about cramping or any other pains/sensations in that part of your body...you don't want to in some way "numb" the pain, which could unwittingly mask the pain of mild contractions, etc., which of course you want to be fully aware of.

Hope that helps. Good luck to you!

I to have back pains and I do go twice a week to have my back cracked. I was in a bad accident a year ago so it is all paid for however some days when I can't get there or for what ever reason I can't make my treatment my doctor recommends a cold pack or a hot pack but higher up on your back you don't want to harm the baby. also you need to lay on your side and have your spouse or friend rub your back in small circles but not to hard as it could cause the nerves in your back to tense up more. always sleep with a pillow in between your legs and lots of comfort around your body. good posture early in pregnancy is the best for later on. I am 34 weeks now and I know what you are talking about just try and get active a little walking each day will help also trust me keep it moving good luck to you

Hi there,
Though sciatica is a common problem, it is really surprising that often it is hard to tell why a person suffers from this ailment. This is why it is often referred to as a back pain complex. Even experienced doctors find it difficult to pinpoint a cause. Number of medical conditions lead to sciatica such as stress and trauma at any point on spinal cord or lower back. This is understandable but when a person feels this pain and the underlying causes are as general as obesity or pregnancy, it presents a vague picture to the doctor. There can be many more underlying causes that require supervision and treatment at the right time.

You need to go to a high end maternity store and get yourself a
belly belt. It is kind of a sling shot the hold your belly up so there is not so much weight there. You wear it under your clothes. I swear that thing is the best. I couldn't have gone through my pregnancy with out it. Good Luck!

I am nearly 6 months along right now and am suffering from the same things. I have only found that rest is about the only thing that will eleviate it. They say it is the muscles and ligaments stretching that hold up our uterus'. It does hurt and because I work everyday, I cant rest as much as I should. If you find anything that does work, email me! lol But as far as i know, u have done all i know to do. I am with ya girlie. gl

when you lay down, try using cushions to support your tummy - it is growing pains and there really isnt much you can do about it - I wouldnt suggest taking pain relief unless advised to by your GP
Have you tried rubbing with a little lavendar massage oil? this can sometimes help soothe pains - but always check the label to see if your ok to have it

It because of your stomach expanding. When I was pregnant with my second, I used to get bruises in that same area it was really painfull but unfortunately, other than getting one of those support belts there's not much you can do. I am surprised that Tylenol isn't working, make sure you talk to your doctor about again on your next visit.

How far along are you? There may not be much you can do. Water does reduce the pressure, but if you've tried it, it might not work for you. The only thing you may be able to do is have the baby...You'll feel better after you do...
