Fetal alcohol syndrome occurs when the mother drinks excessively and steadily- as in every day. I worked with children for many years, and I have only seen one true case.
If you had a few drinks over the holiday, the chances are very good that everything is ok.
Some cramping is normal, and some women do spot. Make the appointment with the ob-gyn, stop drinking alcohol and STOP WORRYING!!!
Relax- chances are more likely everything is ok. If something is wrong, they'll let you know.

I wouldn't worry. Fetal alcohol syndrome usually occurs in children whos parents are alcoholics and continuously drink throughout there pregnancy. I also drank in the beginning of my pregnancy when i did not know, and my baby is looking healthy as well. Some doctors even say drinking every now and then while pregnant is perfectly safe, as long as you don't do it everyday. Now, I of course would never drink after I found out that i was pregnant, just because of the chance... but I highly doubt baby will have every problems. If they say she is healthy I would believe them. FAS babies can be recognized in an ultrasound because there heads are so small. good luck! Try not to worry!

I agree with the rest that say some women drink right up to when they find out they are pregnant. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is when the mothers drink all thru out there pregnancy! You shouldn't worry about it take it one day at a time! Stress can always affect your baby as well so take it slow. Good luck!

25 weeks with my first!

About fetal alcohol syndrome, don't worry about it as long as you don't touch any kind of alcoholic drinks from now on. But any responsible doctor WILL and IS OBLIGATED BY LAW to attend to a pregnant woman, even if she is still not absolutely sure about being pregnant. They CAN'T REFUSE to see you right now, much less make you wait until past your 8th week to give an appointment, specially if you've had bad cramping. Call your state's medical board and report this situation. Call other doctor's offices; I'm sure you'll find one who'll see you immediately.

There isnt anything to worry about. Cramps are normal and so is partying before you find out your pregnant. While the first couple months are the most crucial you usually arent actually pregnant until 2 weeks after the first day of your last period (if you are on a 28 day cycle). Takl to your doc about any fears you have at your first visit. He will put your fears to rest. Congrats and Take Care.

Wine isnt all that bad because it has antioxidents.

Your baby is probably fine, just don't drink anymore. Plus, fetal alcohol syndrome is not as likely to occur in the first pregnancy as it is with later pregnancies, of course it is still very possible.
If you are only 8 weeks, your baby would be more likely to have fetal alcohol effects. But I still think the baby is fine; of course let your dr know your concerns asap.

I would not worry at all. Small amounts of alcohol do not present a very high risk. Sounds like you stopped drinking by the time you were only about 2 weeks along. Again, I would not worry at all.

Even if you could see the doctor, there's nothing he could do or tell at this point. So just relax, take care of yourself, and stop stressing! That's the best thing you can do for yourself and your baby.

I agree, many women drink before they know they are pregnant and their babies turn out fine. Unless your still drinking and in excess you and baby should be ok.
And its normal for your first appt to not be until 8 or even 12 weeks...most drs want you to miss at least 2 periods before starting prenatal care. Just hit up the pharmacy and get some prenatal vitamins, rest and drink lots of water in the meantime!

I didnt know I was pregnant with my son till I was 10 weeks and drank on 3 seperate occasions...he is a very healthy and smart 4yr old!

If your lmp was 12/3 that means you ovulated and conceived around the 17th. If you drank not knowing you were pregnant up until New Year's then that was only about 2 weeks. You should be safe. I don't think you should worry too much. Make sure to express your concerns when you see the doctor.

I think its ok for the first 3 months as lots of women dont know straight away its only dangerous after the 3 months when the baby starts developing the brain etc. Good luck xx

Let me just say to those people who have voted this a bad answer I am just offering advice what i said is true i am not saying it is ok to drink just many mothers have before they found out they were pregnant and have healthy pregnancies the docs say its definetly not good to have drunk after 3 months due to vital growing! At least i am offering reassurance :P
