My Geo has a terrible squeal when I start it. the only time it stops is when I push the clutch in. Mom thought it might be the water pump but that does not make sense to me. Any ideas about a squealing engine?

The only thing it could be is the clutch release bearing. This bearing is a double acting bearing. It pushes and pulls. Raise the car and place on jack stands, or use ramps. The clutch release bearing MIGHT be lubricatable. There should be a cover over the clutch release bearing. Remove this cover and check for a grease zerk.

You most likely need your accessory belt tensioner adjusted- and possibly new belts..

You didn't say which Geo you owned. I owned a 94 Tracker and the A/c compressor doubles as the tensioner for the belt- the a/c compressor would constantly become loose causing a screeching sound when I ran the air conditioning and power steering ran off the same belt. (Trackers have 2 V-belts as opposed to serpentine belt as newer cars have.)
