... America is not a continent, but South and North America. So why do you call "Latin America" instead of "Latin Americas"? After all Latin American countries belong to different Americas, right?

And who discovered South America?

there's no americaS.. it is ONE continent... people call it south. central and north America to make it easier when it comes to talk about several countries in a region

When they say Latin America; they're basically re-dividing the land mass of America. (Meaning, they're referring to America in a geographical rather than political sense)

ok well its typically known as north america (candada, usa,and the islands) and south america (mexico,brazil, colombia,venezuala ect.) but can also be known as "the america's". south america is also known as latin america because they have latin culture... and the spanish and parts the portaguese discovered south america (thats why they typically speak spanish)

Russia is one big country located in both Europe and Asia. Nobody calls it "Russias," because it is one area divided from its neighbors (other areas) by political borders. In the same sense, Latin America is one big area, divided from its neighbors by cultural/historic borders.
