How many days at what types of temperatures?

To make ice, you need a three-day stretch of cold when night temperatures are no more than -10°C to -15°C and day temperatures don't rise above freezing. The colder the better.

dont put too much water down or it wont freeze for a while. last year we put down almost a foot of water and it never froze. while someone was skating on it, it cracked and he fell in!!
so put down only 2 or 3 inches of water, and put it down in small layers of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. wait for each layer to freeze, then add another. make sure you do this when there are a few days in a row when the temperatures are below freezing, preferably around 20 degrees

Of course it wll also depend on the depth of the water.. and the tempurature. If you provide the depth of the water, I bet someone in the math/science threads would love to figure it out for you!

water freezes at 32oF, so probably overnight if its bettween -10 and 25oF, for it to be strong
