it does not change gear until about 3000rpm unless i change useing accelerator(by easing off it slightly).any ideas or do i need new gear box.

check auto oil and then have someone set the box up properly following manufacturers set down procedures. cables being incorrectly adjusted is a famous fault. Another is oil that is contaminated which causes the internal bands to stick to the drum.

Don't know the car but "do you have a sports selector switch"? If you do and its on the car will change at a higher RPM (although 3000 isn't that high?) so you can accelerate harder/faster.

i would try the cable and check if theres enough fluid but it seems like u might need a new gear box

Sounds like the kick down cable is too tight ! or if you have an ETC switch? switch it off !

have your shift cable adjusted or it is something more but i would try the cable first
