I think you should expect it to be very difficult, emotional, and probably tearful. At the end, I expect you to feel TOTALLY LIBERATED from hatred or anger and misplaced guilt. You probably can't even imagine now that you can put this behind you, but you can and will want to!

Just make sure that you don't stay with a counselor if their advice does not resonate for YOU.

Expect to feel unburdened by it. Expect it to be easier to not let the trauma define the rest of your life. Expect empowerment.

expect to relive it all. they will pull all the old feelings up again. It will disturb you and anger you and hurt and scare you, but in the end all will heal. Be strong and be prepared.

It will help to talk about your problem. As a foster parent, I have foster children who take therapy weekly and I have noticed in them that it does help. You have plenty to release and vent.
