I'm looking to do a 1950-esque style...I've been changing a lot lately, and I think I want to settle on that. Any tips on make-up, clothing, and accesories especially handbags. Thanks.

if you want to do a 50's style, the idea is very clean and tailored, from smooth hair in waves, pristine skin and makeup...think black eyeliner and red lipstick, curled eyelashes...tailored brows...

clothes in popping primary brights, red is huge...heels...louboutin heels are good with this look without being a total throw back...

check out pictures of Bettie Page, Betty Grable, Suzy Parker, Rita Hayworth, Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe and other 50's pin ups and movie stars...

50's Pinups are huge right now...

as for handbags, they were absolute confections...the clutch was a common shape for that time...a lot of the bags rigth now echo 50's style, check out some of the Coach and Kate Spade stuff, very 50's styled in certain seasons...The Kelly Bag by Hermes was invented for Grace Kelly, timeless 50's movie star...see pictures of her and her hubby Prince Rainer with her Kelly Bag politely covering her first trimester pregnancy belly...

Also, Givenchy and Balenciaga were huge in the 50's designing for Audrey Hepburn, who was the It girl of the 50's...

Here is a site that has some really cool styles that you can buy online. If you don't want to buy from this site, you can still use the pictures to get ideas of what to do and then go to vintage clothes store and work up your own collection from there. Sounds like fun!

Shop at vintage stores or online. Urban Outfitters sells cute vintage-y clothes. Google vintage clothing and you'll get a bunch of sites online. I like hookedonvintage.com. Makeup: powder, red lipstick, simple eye shadow, black lashes. Clothing: pencil skirts, cardigans, pump heels, capris and socks, etc. Simple but elegant handbags. Vintage instyle.com has good handbags.
