If true it's a major plus for baseball. Maybe the Giants franchise is finally looking at their imagine as it pertain to the public and the rest of baseball. Right now most of the baseball world is looking down on the Giants. There is a huge integrity issue here and only the Giants can clean it up. Let's hope they terminate the pending deal and let Bonds go. I only hope no one else picks him up. That would be a real tragedy.

1. Bonds never officially signed with the Giants. He did agree to their offer on 16 million but there were a lot of issues regarding the details of the contract.
Now that he has failed the amphetamines test there will be more clauses added by the Giants.
2. The Giants were not trying to get out of the contract. They simply are not budging from their original draft and clauses. Bonds wants a lot of literature in that contract changed and the Giants are standing firm. And you can't blame them at this point.
3. As far a Bonds playing somewhere else that will not happen.
It's San Francisco or nothing.

Bonds and the Giants are in contract negotiation, there is no contract at this time. Bonds was a free agent after this past season. The only other teams that showed interest were Oakland and St. Louis. With him testing positive for amphetimines no team will touch him now. The Giants have the upper hand in negotiations, if they still want him at all.

Bonds doesn't currently *have* a contract with the Giants, so there's nothing to get out of. They're in the midst of contract discussions, which seem to be stuck on Barry's ego at the moment.

The Giants all but signed Bonds to a one year, 16 million dollar contract. But, since he tested positive for amphetamines and originally blamed the failure on a teammate, Mark Sweeney, the contract seems to be reexamed by the Giants over some of the terms. The Giants would not have to get out of any contract because it was not signed yet. But, with the value of Bonds seemingly devalued because of this failed test, it would make sense for the Giants to renegotiate the terms.

The Giants aren't stupid. They know that the entire baseball world is watching this. The Giants won't go through with the Bonds deal unless they are CONVINCED that he's clean. (So, if they do, that means it'll be time for everyone to lay off Bonds. My gut feeling is he's done as a major leaguer.)

I heard the same thing. It would be in the Giants best interest to get rid of Bonds. Use the money for your team. If they get rid of Bonds and use the money wisely they could contend this year.

Barry and the Giants have been reported trying to close a one year contract. I don't know how or why they would try to get out of the contract.
