It's a matter of conversion and subtraction.

There are 100 cm in a meter. So 0.31 meters is the same as:
0.31 x 100 = 31 cm.

If it was 31 cm at 8 months, then you need to subtract 4 cm (from 7 to 8) and 2 cm (from 6 to 7).

31 - 4 - 2 = 25 cm.

It was 25 cm (or 0.25 meters) tall at 6 months old.

ok. lets start with a puppy's height in centimeters which is 31 at 8 months.

from 7 to 8 m it grew 4 so when it was 7 it was 27 cm. (31 -4)

from 6 to 7 it grew 2 cm so at 6mos. it was 25 cm (27 - 2).

All this assumes uniform growth and not spurts, but I doubt that a 5th grade class is going to work that way.

hope that helps....

100 centimeters per meter
.31 timx 100
=31-2=29-4=25
= 25 centimeters tall

25. You first have to convert from meters to centimeters. You have 31 centimeters in 0.31 meters. 31-4-2=25

In the last two months the puppy grew 4cm+2cm = 6cm.
6 cm = .06 meters.
So the puppy's height when he was 6 months old is
.31 metere - .06 meters = 0.25 meters

0.31 meters = 31 centimeters.

31 (8 mos.) - 4 (7-8 mos.) - 2 (6-7 mos.) = 25 cm

1 centimeter is .01 of a meter (1 meter=100 centimeters). So .31 - .04 - .02 = .25centimeters

For future reference, centimeter is 1/100 of a meter (also you can say .01 meters, it's the same thing). This is the key to answering this question. It's already been answered sufficiently, so good luck!

wow kinda of big problem for 5th grader

first thing is .31 meters needs to be converted to centimeters(cm) -like rest of measurements (1m = .01cm)
take .31 and divide by .01 to get meters into centimeters

second is to take the 8month # (in centimeters) and subtract the other numbers (4,2) from it

Oh dear, I taught 5th grade for quite a few years. Shouldn't your daughter be doing her own math homework?...parents who can't figure out the problem for themselves aren't setting the best example by doing what's being done here.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt...you want to know how you do the problem before helping your daughter. You're really not going to do the problem for your child or give her the details you learn here, are you?
