Ok my computer recently crashed and I lost all of my saved settings and files and everything that was on my computer so I am now trying to get everything up and running. Before my computer crashed I had a cable modem (Toshiba RNDIS Adapter PCX2600) I am trying to install it and I need the Found New Hardware wizard to pop up because in the instructions that I downloaded along with the driver for it I need that wizard to pop up in order for me to install it corectly. The instructions say to go to the device manager and uninstall the adapter then to go to "action" at the top of the screen and scan for hardware changes and then the Found New Hardware Wizard is supposed to pop up this way I can manually put in where the driver for this device is located. Please Help- I also can't figure out what is wrong with my sound. I have no sound coming out of my speakers. I tried to download the driver for it but I keep getting some error message that the file is corrupt. Please Help!!!!! Thanks

first off for the sound issue, you will need to uninstall any sound device, then go back thru reinstall and MAKE SURE YOU GET THE UPDATED DRIVERS for it... thats what is giving you the corrupt file issue. as for the new found hardware, you need to go into run, then msconfig, then services tab make sure your plug and play is checked, if not any of that i dunno what to tell you good luck ♥

The cable modem is a USB modem. Suprisingly enough Windows XP sometimes has issues with detecting USB devices.

For some USB hardware you have to install the software for the device first, reboot, and then plug the device in.

You should actually see if your ISP has an Ethernet-based cable modem. All you would need than is an Ethernet adapter in your computer and a patch cable.

For the sound issue, it could be a problem with the actual file. You'd have to contact the driver manufacturer. Sometimes you can use a driver from a similar product.

For the Modem
Go to the control panel and select
"Add Hardware"
That should put you on the right track

For the Sound
Without knowing the Sound card make I can't really help you
Go to the manufacturer's website (Dell, HP, Compaq whatever) and search for your computer model then look for
support, downloads, or even drivers that should get you closer to the right download

Let's keep it simple. When you call the tech guys at your cable company, they first tell you to unplug the power from your cable modem and wait a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and wait until all the lights come on.
If that doesn't cure it I would suggest you make a phone call to your cable company as the other tricks are too techy for most and usually don't work! Good luck:)
