Once i saw a large floating oval silver object while walking home, my first thought was the moon had fallen out of the sky what do you think it was ?

Well it was probably one of those light up ad balloons, landing on a nearby airport. If the moon reallt did fall, the earth will be destroyed, since the moon is like 100 times bigger than an asteroid.

The moon on the horizon looks way different the the moon up in the sky.

Either a disc, an UFO, or some sort of flying object that may of been hard to make out due to certain circumstances.

hmm.. not the moon falling out of the sky-the world would have ended already, perhaps an hallucination it was dark, maybe your eyes playing tricks on you or...Lil green men, your choice, but personally i think it was just a trick either your eyes or the light.

weather balloons and meteors have already been mentioned but another possibility is the (as yet) little understood phenomenon called 'ball lightening' check out wikipedia see if this fits the picture.

It could be a series of things. Like a weather ballon.. a satellite.. Maybe a plane.. You have to give more detail to what it looked like..

it could have been an "UFO" or maybe the moon was actually falling from the sky
