Clue: folks
Answer: uns

What does 'uns' mean? I can't seem to find a satisfactory explanation for it. Thanks for your time in advance.

The only thing I can conclude is that it is a corruption of the word 'ones,' as in the word 'young'uns,' short for young ones - used to describe children usually. Then we could say that saying young'uns, or young ones, is tantamount to saying young folk, which would make perfect sense, given the clue and answer of your cross-word puzzle word.

I think they mean a collloquial form of "ones" as in "young 'uns" That clue seems like a stretch to me!
