i reading P & P and i want to listen to the words as i read, where can i find a free download version to put on a CD for a friend and my ipod for me.

Probably becuase free downloads of books are illeagal...

Honestly, why not try your local library? If you live in a city of even modest size, I'll be the library system can set you up with everything you need.

The other route to try is: most computer systems these days have built in tools for reading text aloud. (Generally meant to help the blind.) The result sounds a little fake since a computer still can't read as well as a human. Just find the text to P&P, it should be online somewhere since the copyright has lapsed. Then have one of these programs speak the text for you.
