With the new arena holding 15000 people, and an existing hockey market that would sell out season tickets, why isn't the league persuing a team in an existing market? BTW selling out an arena of 15000 would be better than sellin 5000-8000 tx in an arena that holds 20K...

Dude is the most accurate. I'm sure the market's there. but a few reasons:

1) honestly, if the team has losing seasons for 3-4 yrs in a row, you really think ppl will show up?

2) like Dude said, the economics aren't there. even 18,000 ppl sold out every game won't turn a profit, it's corporate sponsorship. not only the luxury boxes, but actual sponsorship of the team through arena advertisements and such. the Canucks sold out all home games for about 3 seasons + now, but without all the corporate money, we'd be in Portland or something. There just ain't enough big companies in the Peg to sponsor the team.

3) I don't think bettman wants to expand in Canada. face it. Canada - 30 million ppl. USA 320 million ppl. guess where the bigger money is?

Bottom line (pun intended) - that's what it's about. money talks.

it would be nice, but as long as Garry Bettman is the Comish you will not see another Canadian hockey team in the NHL.

this is what Sidney Crosby would look like in a Winnipeg Jets jersey.

to the people that are saying no well look at your Islanders what an avg. of 11 to 12,000 fans a game you look at the Ducks with there great season and still don't fill the arena several other teams in the U.S like the Panthers, Coyotes have 19,000 seats and avg. lest then 16,000 to 15,000. the Canadian dollar is stronger then ever and with the new salary cap a team can survive in Winnipeg or Quebec.

It's got nothing to do with the league trying to go back to Winnipeg. How it works is a city has to lobby the NHL for a team and Winnipeg hasn't done crap all to woo the Penguins over (my god, imagine Sidney Crosby, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Evgeni Malkin playing in a Canadian city like Winnipeg...whew!!). If you want a team in Winnipeg, start a petition to the city council or whoever does this sort of thing (I'm guessing you live in Winnipeg). After seeing how the Jets' fans tried their damnest to keep the team, I think you'll have tons of signatures. Hell, e-mail me a copy and I'll sign it. Good luck and go Leafs.

15000 isn't a big enough arena for a team to turn a profit. Nor does the MTS Centre have enough corporate boxes, which is where the real money is. It's a great AHL arena, but it's not suitable for an NHL team.

i wish that the nhl would return to winnipeg. imagine the penguins in winnipeg blue, white and red. awesome!
unfortunately i don't think winnipeg could carry an nhl team, because the new mts centre is about 4 to 5 thousand seats to small and because the price of an nhl game would be expensive for 41 regular season games in a year.also what would happen to the moose and i think that a team from winnipeg would be a hard sell to cities in the u.s. bettman wants a league that's like the nba.
and right now there's too many canadian teams.

in this "season" of 24/7, they confirmed this 10 year previous boy with cerebral palsy whose a Rangers tremendous fan, and it became so heartwarming and "aww" inducing because Torts regarded actually chuffed about talking to Liam, texting about video games, assembly him and the crew, etc. even as maximum gamers and coaches might want to easily be like "inspite of, i'm doing this for tax rebates" or some thing of that nature. I only found the very reality the massive apple Rangers application might want to quite do some thing that tremendous for a baby like Liam astounding.

I think the Jets SHOULD come back but it's not likely that they WOULD. I really want to see another Canadian team though. It'll be nice if they moved one of the teams with like 100 fans and put them up here. They're just wasting away down there in the states.

hockey is a canadian game, bring it back to canada. expand the league to 32 teams (2 divisions of 8 teams in each conference) and give winnepeg and quebec teams again (that should also renew rivalries between quebec and montreal)
