The French 5th republic is kinda weird. They have a president with a five year term who is the head of state, and the president appoints a prime minister who is charge of the Cabinet. So the closest thing to a VP in France would be Dominique de Villepin, who is the Prime Minister. However, if the president dies, then the president of the Senate becomes interim president until a new one is elected, who at the moment is Christian Poncelet. So yeah, French government is odd, innit?
