According to the book Jawbreaker by Gary Berntsen, the CIA operative in charge during the operation at Tora Bora, Rumsfeld declined to give the ok to take down Bin Laden. He did not appropriate the resources necessary to do it. Why? And Why do Repubs complain that Clinton never tried to get Bin Laden? He did more than Bush did, he actually attacked the terrorists camps while Bush ignored the memo that said OBL was determined to attack in the US

Ddey-so, Bin Laden is determined to atack in the US, and we tell people in Japan and Korea on alert? OBL and a bunch of Saudi's attack us on 9/11, and we invade Iraq? I'm noticing a pattern here. Are we sure Bush really did give up drinking?

If the Bush administration took out OBL, they wouldn't be able to play their boogieman card to boost their approval rating.

Does no one seem to remember the awesome bunker busters? I do. Or do you think that was a lie and they made that up too? Sheesh!

If terms of the mission were to try and go find and show the world that we had captured and killed Osama bin Laden -- even though we didn't do that -- that's a very difficult task. Some folks underestimated how difficult the task is to find somebody in his own backyard. ...

He did. Can't find him.
Berntsen has been discredited. That was an old Kerry propoganda book that was discredited before it even was published. Clinton bombed an asprin factory not any terrorist camps. Bush took out most if not all of the camps in Afganastan, not Clinton. The FACT is Clinton was handed Bin Laden on a silver platter from the Suadis and declined.

while I'm not too sure about the source you cite...
at the very least, by government released troop numbers alone, it seems we have had a relatively weak attempt to get him, for someone that killed so many on U.S. soil...
why? I have no idea, but it's my biggest problem with Bush... I have no doubt that if the U.S. military wanted to get him, we would have him...
and really, if you ask me, the past is in the past, and we're dealing with a post-9-11 world... and saying "Clinton didn't do it" isn't an excuse for your personal incompetence... stop making excuses... it's your job now...
maybe we're waiting for him to attack us again to have an excuse to go into Iran? it worked for Iraq apparently?
